 Clearing The Head

Got horrible news earlier in the week from work, that news being I was no longer employed. AKA Reduction In Work Force. Totally messed my head up and I was pretty down and out for a few days. On Wednesday I decided I needed to get away and clear my head so made the not so quick drive down to the land (3 hours), when I got there, went in search of the old foundation of the house and barn that was build in the late 1800s and burnt down in the 1960s Found it pretty quick, but it took quite a while to clear a path threw it, as the area was now completely over grown with fur trees my grandfather had planted about 20 years ago. After clearing myself a path, I was at the foundation and pulled out my detector, I didn't even swing for more then a second and got an iron hit, and then more and more and more, the entire foundation was covered in iron, every hole I dug I found more and more and more... in between I was getting non iron hits, but every time I tried to find it, even with discrimination, all I could find was iron. So I just began to dig everything I found. In all spent about 6 hours detecting after about 3 hours of driving and another hour clearing up the area.

Mostly everything in here was old nails from the farm house, though I did find half a horse shoe, and a leather belt, as well as part of a lock that was probably on a dresser or chest at one point.

Found a large iron spike, as well as some sort of large iron bolt. Also found two pretty large cylinder type objects, no idea what they are, see photo below. Also found a door to a wood stove.

Once I was swung out, I began to walk back to my car and my camp site, and decided to take a look at an old stone wall even farther back on the property. Found a bunch of bottles, really no idea if they are new or old. But it appeared to be a bottle dump from some time in the past. Found a good number of non broken ones, and a ton of broken ones,, there where a lot more, and most covered with with years of dirt, decided I would save some of those for next time as it was getting late and I had not yet set up my tent and the sun was going down (ended up sleeping in the car)

Had a good time in the end, and was nice clearing my head out on the land, though froze my behind off over night. Little to early in the spring for camping I think ;D

That's a real bummer about your job, sorry to hear it.
Getting your head clear is the best thing you can do. I hope you find some goodies.

Finds are secondary (yeah right) MDing really is a great stress reliver, that's a fact.
You probably have a very good site there, and clearing out the iron is the best way to find what else may be there, in between, and underneath the iron. I'm willing to bet there is something good there.
