Ok, I read some threads about the proper way to run the coil wire up your MD shaft to prevent falsing. Many are saying to run the first foot straight up the lower shaft, serurely fastened and then coil it from there up to the head unit.
Has anyone every tried this? I'm sceptical on a new coil with a heavy shielded cable that it makes hint of difference, but have I have been proven wrong before, ask my wife...

There is always someone trying to re-invent the wheel. There is no need to run the wire straight up the shaft, even worse if you don't leave enough slack so that the coil can tip you risk pulling on the wire and possible damage. I don't even wrap my wire very tightly, no falsing issues what so ever.
Ask yourself this, the manufactures don't say to do it that way (straight up) and they do stress to leave some slack, if you trip and fall as for one example and the coil folds up you will need enough cable for that to happen.
On top of all that the cable on AT Pro is fairy stiff, and don't "flop around" anyway. It's pretty much a non issue.
That's my 2 cents, but your detector.

That's what common sense would have told me, just curious as there's always one or two that say they gained a foot of depth with some kind of farm-engineered scheme...

An extra foot of depth...interesting, as that reminds me of a BANNER find on the big forum, a gold coin pendant that was "found" with an ace 250 at a depth of 18 inches, yes 18 inches according to the finder. Not only that, but there were supposedly field pics. with dirt in the background, yet strangely, not a speck of dirt on the coin, not even in the legends or denticles of the coin. Yes that was one magic ace.
