Land Grant maps and A.F. Church maps are easily found on the internet and provide good clues. Land grants may or may not have been settled on. Some men just walked away, others sold them and returned to their native homelands. A.F. Church maps give a good perspective but can be wildly inaccurate.

For anyone in NS, Mike Parker has a lot of books about old ghost towns and forgotten places. I just ordered a bunch from Amazon along with one Coinguy told me about, Lost Highways of NS. I guess it has the Woodford maps in it (available online if you google it). One of these great roads runs through my backyard and we're slowly piecing together the track via Google Earth and boots on the ground. Last weekend we checked out a small segment of it and found a really cool old stone wall way back in the middle of nowhere. Definite nectar sector! DS How far are you from moncton , i would really like to go if you need extra metal detector . Would be nice to do that a whole week end. I'm near the airport outside of Dartmouth, about an hour and a half from you. I'll scope it out a bit more once the snow melts and if it's looking promising, I'll throw it out there if anyone wants to get their feet wet! DS

Now that spot sounds great! How old do you think this area would be That road was was originally one of two highways in NS, both started in Sackville and one went to Windsor, one went to Truro. I believe they date from the late 1700's/early 1800's. You can check out the Woolford maps HERE and HERE are some old photos from the same areas. DS

looking to take a long week end this summer to do some metal detecting in the acadian peninsula in new-brunswick this summer , a lot land has never been disturbed and a lot of history. Could be a lot to find because i never heard that anyone was metal detecting up there. I will do my homework to find the best spots i could go.

Some island might have had lighthouse on them. Found 1 island in new-brunswick , still have the foundation of the old lighthouse around the modern structural lighthouse. They use to have people living on that island in the 1800's. Just need to find a way to get there this summer. The best thing the island belong to the crown.

Canadian Tire has nice inflatable air mats... Just be sure to bring your mobile phone to call the Coast Guard for a tow back in. Just got a book by Mike Parker, Ghost Islands of NS. Very interesting read, but some of them are off limits (McNabs & Georges) and the rest, I'd have the same problem as you unless I wanted to hit open ocean in a 15' canoe... DS
