The best maps for Nova Scotia are the early Toppo Jackson maps in the 1900's to about 1943...some show who owned the land at the time plus it shows all the houses, post office's,schools, weigh stations, saw mills, cemetery's and dams on the road system at the time, and very accurate. The A.F. Church maps are good for the time but are off a bit...but hey it's 1871 and does give us a bit of history about the people and their professions.

Question: is McNabs off limits? There's a guys from Eastern Passage who'll take groups over for a reasonable amount... Looking at the historic maps of the island, lots of history there.

DS McNabs gained provincial park status in 2001. Mike Tilley of McNabs island and nature Tours will take you out. Dept. of lands and forest may show up shortly thereafter. Have hunted this island for over 30 years. Stay away from the north part of the island, Lynch property (houses) and the cemetery as well as Fort Strawbeery.............................................

So wadda ya think, a group dig at some point on the island? Why is the Lynch grounds and Fort off limits? I assume the Fort might be a historic area? Have you guys ever seen map produced by Friends of McNabs? Lot's of good stuff on the island. See HERE for the map McNabs for the come-from-aways is right smack in the middle of Halifax Harbour and has be inhabited since the 1700's. Cheers, DS

As long as you don't mind being being shot at dawn.
However I had dug on the commons without being harassed. But you're going to need a jackhammer diggin there these days...
