It would be interesting sometime to just look where some town or village were founded. Local legends , old settlement , some field or backyard might have not been disturbed for the past 100 years . Even a trip at a local museum . Feel free to share your local legend or history

Graveyard is a big no for me, dont feel like making the 6 oclock new with my metal detector , Your list is pretty good for idear , What happen if you spot an old foundation in the middle of nowhere, like the nearest house from there is 20km aways. Pretty hard to know who own the land. I know 6 spots like that , never done any digging yet.

Check with your local Natural Resources if your in Nova Scotia....they have maps showing what is crown land and private...crown land has a lots of old homesteads if you know where to find them. You just need to do a bit of sleuthing for old cellars and barn foundations in your area....I've located five late 1700's to late 1800's and hope to be working them when the weather breaks... You can also use property on line if you know anyone with an account that will give you a user name and password...that will tell you whats private and who it belongs to. Can't stress it enough..do your homework and it will pay off for you... Good luck HH Graveyard is a big no for me, dont feel like making the 6 oclock new with my metal detector , Your list is pretty good for idear , What happen if you spot an old foundation in the middle of nowhere, like the nearest house from there is 20km aways. For anyone in NS, Mike Parker has a lot of books about old ghost towns and forgotten places. I just ordered a bunch from Amazon along with one Coinguy told me about, Lost Highways of NS. I guess it has the Woodford maps in it (available online if you google it). One of these great roads runs through my backyard and we're slowly piecing together the track via Google Earth and boots on the ground. Last weekend we checked out a small segment of it and found a really cool old stone wall way back in the middle of nowhere. Definite nectar sector!

I am an avid hunter as well as a digger. I've located several foundations and old farm sites in the middle of nowhere. I can guarantee they have never been touched. The old sites in the bush are hard to detect. Things are very deep and there is normally a lot of trash. Trees, bush and roots make it very challenging, but not impossible. Anyone have any good tips.

Those are what I dream of! I used to hunt a lot as well , have not ran across any old foundations in the woods while hunting tho. Only tips I can think of is run a small coil if trashy and go slow,
