Digging in Halifax last month in a public park, I was visited by the PD 4 times. It was clear that someone in the neighborhood had a hate on for me which was unfortunate as I was packing out tons of garbage, teaching local kids all about MDing and leaving the place better than I found it. First time the officer said I wasn't doing any damage, so have fun. The second and third time, they weren't taking no for an answer and escorted me out of the park. I left, called bylaw enforcement and was told that unless I'm damaging city property, I was good to go. So I called the PD and spoke with the superintendents assistant RE the matter. She took it up with him and he reiterated what bylaw said and that if I was 'harassed' again to have them call him. Two days later I was out again and and an officer showed up and asked me some questions. He said that he rec'd a complaint from someone in the area that I was strip mining the park. I explained what had happened in the past and after 5 minutes of polite questioning he left and said he'd phone the complainant and explain the situation and hopefully but the issue to bed. We'll see next week...
I have his phone number so if anyone in the Halifax area is ever needs some backup, PM me and I can pass along the contact info.
Cheers, DS

Takes all kinds. The only park to my knowledge that is off limits is Point Pleasant due to part of it being a federal park.
