I, Wolfgang, Kern and his son Lucan decided to go to Sea Point Beach this morning. The tides were terrible being low tide at 5 this morning and then again at 5 this afternoon.
At least at Sea Point, the tides does not matter, as we don’t search for modern jewelry and coins here - It is not really a swimming beach because of the rocks, but was used for picnics and other activities for many years – it is possible Cape Town’s oldest beach.
Two weeks ago I found coins from both the 1600s and 1700s here.
Here’s the four of us before the detecting started at 11.00 this morning. We had terrible winter storms last week but today was sunny and fairly warm

Not much was found here, so we moved to a beach a few hundred meters further along the cost. Here Wolf found a Spanish coin from 1892. He looks like John Wayne ready to draw his revolver!

We all founded some older pre decimal coins but those that we could identify were not that spectacular. Wolf and Kern still have to go through their finds and decide if there is something worth posting. Wolf has found an interesting small silver coin and will clean it tonight so that we can try to identify it.
I did not make a really good find – my only foreign coin was an old USA wheat cent but I cannot make out the date.
Here is our finds for the day…

Here is a scan of my finds – the top 4 are silver 3 and 6 pences from the 1920s onwards. Below that 3 old coppers and then below that more modern coins from 1965 onwards.

All in all it was a very nice day’s detecting here in Cape Town.
I however did not find anything worthwhile for the International Competition but hope that there will be many entries - if you are like me and did not find much - please still post some pics please!
