Had a few days off work last week so I took on a small project of building a floating sifter. I watched a few youtube videos and checked out some pictures on-line and came up with my own version. 18" x 18" square (3" depth), doubled 1/2" wire mesh to make 1/4" grates, handles for carrying and flipping over more easily in the water and I've ordered a 9x12" mesh scuba dive bag to clip onto the side for trash/keepers. Considering the size, it doesn't weigh too much. I gave it three heavy coats of urethane as well. Can't wait to get out and try it... I just hope it floats!

Nice project. where did you pick the wiremesh. Thanks. I got the mesh at Home Depot. I think it was around $11 for a 5 foot roll.

Very nice! If you don't mind me asking, what are your plans for it? I've never seen one before
Cheers DS

The sifter is used to help speed up recovery time by dumping your scoop into it as you go along. I watched some Youtube videos of a few guys using these and it seemed to work well for them. I had most of the stuff laying around in the garage, so while waiting for all this snow to melt so I thought I'd give building one a try. I think it only added to the cabin fever though. lol
