Spent a couple of hours with ND at the place I recently got the Hibernia hp. Pulled a half dozen buttons out of the iron, did dig a couple opiece of an old iron pot too. A couple of buttons were decorated, and a ST. JOHN NEW BRUNSWICK HALF PENNY, FOR PUBLIC ACCOMODATION, the first of it's type for me. And it's not totally toast. So was a pretty good day. These were issued in 1830 according to the book. Thanks again (I may not even mentioned it) for the Pewter Dave. Try that again

Those are some great buttons Rick, whats the history on the XX button? THE 20th REGIMENT OF FOOT East Devonshire Regiment pre 1800 This regiment was known as "Wolfe's Own" as Wolfe was once the colonel of this regiment. The regiment participated at both Louisbourg and Quebec during the Seven Years War in America (1756-1763). Governor Carleton also at one time served as a senior officer to this regiment.

Wow ...Such great finds . Rick I just have to ask ... without divulging locations ... what criteria do you consider when looking for areas to prospect? I'd love to find where the old Block houses were back in early Lunenburg but having a hard time locating exact locations.
I actually throw this question out to anyone whom may have some resources to share.

Nice finds Rick! Everything is in amazingly good condition too. I find some farm fields where they applied chemical fertilizers, the copper artifacts are pretty roached by the time they see the light of day.
Cheers, DS

Sodbuster, I have no "criteria" I hunt everywhere I can get permission, all the research in the world (I have learned) is not going to get you on the best spots. Most of my best finds, spanish silver and what not have come from random sites, that are older than anyone remembers. Research is a good tool, but to a point, then it takes a lot of leg work in addition to that. Yes those block houses, I've seen reference to them but no exact info that I can find ? again that would take some logic, good luck, and the leg work of trying everywhere you can to find the evidence. The military buttons, musket balls etc. You're in a good spot, and there are a lot of good finds to be had, but also don't forget there are a lot of days where you'll get next to nothing, that's why it's called hunting, not gathering. Good luck out there. Remember I have lots of spare time if you want some help with some of that leg work...I never get discouraged Rick
