Here in the U. S. there has been much turmoil lately that revolves around finds and the posting of such. One of our 2 major forms that covers metal detecting has a banner running across it's main page promoting the showing of banner finds. This forum has a policy that prohibits questioning of members finds. I think you can see where such policies can have an effect on the hobby. Of course the policies often get thrown aside when a " target ' emerges that everyone can take a swipe at. I've seen this happen numerous times on different issues and that is par for the course in internet forums.
So. if the policy is not to question someone's finds why is it allowed when someone allegedly posted fake finds ? If I were a betting man I would probably side with the people that are accusing the poster of the fake finds but I remain neutral at this point and I believe the real issue has come forward , one that I repeatedly focused on-- Too much emphasis on finds where discussion of issues that are hurting the hobby are prohibited or greatly avoided. The forum where these allegations in regards to the finds are being made had a policy that during most of 2015 a long term member could not start a thread on legal and permission issues.
Would that forum share any responsibility on what the emphasis of finds can contribute to and/or the lack of discussion on other issues can contribute to ? I think they are partially responsible but don't try telling them that as that is considered having a difference of opinion with authority there and must be done off the forum. Unless they do it to you and then the rules are set aside because they have a target. Targets are what forums and detecting are about.
