It‘s been quite a while since I did some SCUBA detecting but took my chance this weekend when friends invited us to stay with them on a house boat at the sea lagoon at Langebaan – about 100 mile north of Cape Town on our Atlantic west coast.
These houseboats have been moored on the lagoon for 20 years and so must have seen plenty of jewellery lost over the years by weekenders jumping into, swimming and frolicking in the water.
Mariana and I waiting at the jetty for a motor boat to take us to our house boat (second one from the left and sleeping 20 people) – a luxury double storey guest house on the water.
A picture from the second storey taken back towards the coast. See the smaller house boat on the right hand side. Three gold rings were lost there a few weeks ago by a friend of the couple that invited us for the weekend.
Having a nice time with friends on the house boat. We had a great time – the guy second from the right is Sir William, a banker from London. It told him I would call him Sir William if he would call me Lord Pierre. He politely declined ….. LOL
…and then to the serious stuff – two pics of me getting ready for the dive around the house boat with my Fisher CZ 20.
My friend Heidi accompanied me – she is a very experienced diver and had to show me the ropes again. Like I said, its been awhile since I detected with SCUBA gear
….and down I go ….
When I returned and got back on deck, I received a call from my friend Andy who asked me what I got. I told him that I would rather send him a picture or two of my finds via Mariana’s cell phone.
These are the two pictures I send him; guess what his reply was…?
I actual fact, I got very few signals and had difficulty with my buoyancy, - the items in the picture where personal items from some of us on the boat and was just staged to make Andy have a heart attack!
But next time I will invite master diver Andy with and if there is someone who will scoop up the goodies & goldies for sure, it will be him! But I think my real problem was that I tried to hard to look like James Bond in my dive gear and please the ladies on board. I mean, you only live twice looking for Mr. GOLD finger…
Regards
Pierre
