Melkbos (Milk bush in English) Strand is a small holiday town about 35 kilometres north of Cape Town. Because this is the Atlantic Ocean side of the Cape Peninsula, the water is very cold but in the hot summer months, people do swim here.
Here is a pic of the beach with surfers braving the cold waters. In the background is the Koeberg nuclear plant that uses the cold sea water to cool down its turbines.

Usually this is not a prolific metal detecting beach, but when John and I went there this morning, the usual white & sandy beach was almost gone with rocks and stones to be seen everywhere! John took this picture with his cell phone towards Cape Town (south side)

Finds were coming up thick and fast and after two or three hours we were pooped. Here is my finds for the day as I emptied my bag at home...

Some of the finds must have been in the seawater for many decades as they were heavily conglomerated with little pebbles, sand and whatever. This coin was found stuck to a rock – I think I will leave it like that and always wonder what coin it is!

Here are three pictures of a chain, watch and then also some of the coins that will take some time to clean ...
Two more pictures of the finds after I dipped them in some water – 114 coins were found by me with some other bits and pieces...

My best finds were these two rings – the one is a 5.8 gram 9ct gold signet ring. The other one with the three stones is hallmarked, but I cannot read the hallmarks...

What a day!
