welcome to the community or obsession of finding a better coin? Its a funny affliction this metal detecting; a fellow never quite gets happy with his finds, always wants to find a rare coin that he doesn't have.
Anyway, Leslie is the gentleman here in Nova Scotia. He gladly shares his knowledge!! Anyway, as far as a machine, it will all depend how far you want to stretch your mighty dollar. Leslie is detecting with a 20 old plus machine and has no problem. The only problem he has is that with all the detecting he's doing, he's wearing out his machines and having problems finding replacements. I use a Minelab Explorer XS and swear by it!! Leslie is using a Freedom 3 plus and wouldn't change for anything else, as he's used to it and understands his machine to a T. So any machine will finds coins as long as you put the detector's coil over it.
Wish you all the best, its a great hobby to get out and explore our great province of ours.

Great finds , glad to know the old Freedom 3's didn't fail you. It says much for your detecting ability, even with an old machine. So sir, good to know you had a good outing across the big pond; will be in touch. Take care French Dave
