Last weekend I find myself looking for bronze bushings for a fixture I'm making when I spy a jar full of old english pennies on the back shelf. An hour later I had my bushings and they certainly add character to the work. I've used pennies as washers in the past, but not in an ornamental fashion such as these. Pennies are still, and will continue to be for some time, legal tender. You will still be able to deposit or redeem them at any financial institution in Canada. Which is good for us as we will be digging them up for years and years to come. I, however, have decided to keep all the pennies I find henceforth for the following reasons; 1) Considering how little they are worth, I'd rather just have them to look at. 2) Someday I may need them to make other thinks (like bushings & washers). 3) They may actually become worth something in years to come as they become more and more scarce (don't hold your breath!). 4) As far as scrap goes, the solid copper ones are already worth more than a cent each. and 5) I have a poorly conceived plan to bury a treasure chest full of coins before I die and leave cryptic clues for family and friends to chase willy nilly all over the countryside, only to recover a four-hundred pound chest full of... you guessed it, pennies!!(My apologies to my sisters and brothers in law, there may have been drinking involved when this idea was hatched). In the back of one of the pictures, you can see a water scoop that I made for a friend. Still looking for Pirate treasure, coinguy

Cool looking jig, what's it used for? Nice mahogany too, don't see big slabs like that anymore. At the rate the price of copper is going up, hold onto the real ones, they'll double or triple in value if you smelt them down. Highly illegal, but honestly, who cares. DS BTW, when I heard bottle, I got all excited. Come to find it's just just some old single malt floor cleaner

Oh! Oh! It's okay jr., he doesn't really know what he's saying ( mumble mumble floor cleaner him!)! (smiling)
The jig is for winding wire coils which I then snip into rings I use to make chain maille. The mahogany slabs were treads from a staircase that I salvaged out of a restaurant. The railing spindles became large handles for the wood lathe chisels that I made. I never throw out anything oddball like that. Sooner or later I always end up using it for something neat.
My spring starts on March 1st. I don't care what the calendar says.
Thanks for asking, jr
