Anti- Detecting / Angry people

Ran into my first angry old guy tonight as I was detecting a playing field I have been too many times. I heard somebody yelling a couple times , took off my headphones and see an older "gentleman" at least 100 yards away hanging out his apartment window. He says " Who gave you permission to be digging holes all over the field" I reply that it is a public area and I am not leaving holes. He just replies "Public?" and then slams the window.

I was quite upset over this, and normally if I had of ran into somebody who did not want me at a place public or not I would simply leave but the fact that he was yelling at me and didn't even see how I was removing my finds I ignored him.

Anybody else have problems and or run ins with people like this? I knew it would happen eventually , still not happy over it. I would have liked to be able to show him how I dig my plugs and even use a towel for soil but that's hard to do when somebody is too lazy to come out of their apartment.

Leslie and I had someone call the police on us they ask what we were doing check out our plugs said no problem have a nice day. They left we went back to digging

I had a problem with a ding dong at a beach telling me that the goverment own the beach and he was gonna call the rcmp and they would seize my machine. i said call harper and call the rcmp the tax payor got all kind of money to spend , just putt back my headphone and kept swinging. i was covering my holes back in the sand.

Sometime it s just jealeasy or small people that try to control stuff that are out of there business.

I was expecting the police to show up but they didn't. I kind of wanted them to so I could show them what I was doing and no hard was being done.

I like my week end digs , i go as early as 5h30 in the morning , no one is around and that give me chance to go check spots that i would not go in the afternoon. i even check a small park next to the cops station , as they were driving out , none never stop to check what i was doing.

Backwoods or old fields for me. The squawking I here is from the crows. I have had the snot scared out of me by the odd deer sneaking up on me. As for your cranky old man...forget him. You have nothing to hide. I've had people stop and walk all the way across a field to ask me what I was doing. After you show them what you've found and explain the hobby, them seem satisfied. I may be greedy, but I never show them the real good stuff. I show them the pull tabs, iron mower parts and modern clad. Some people can get funny if they think you are stealing ancient history from the ground, like a large cent that's so crusty you can't read it.

The fact that I could not defend myself or explain what I do is what bothered me the most. He was yelling from afar, I'm over it now just needed to vent. I know it was bound to happen eventually.

Yes bound to happen, it's a numbers game just like dig enough holes something good will be in one of them, if enough people see you digging some of those won't like what they are seeing, and one of those will be vocal about it.

I've ran into a few of those "frothing at the mouth" people. Which is why I'd never go to a school, when a game is going on, or a park on a busy day or time of day. Most of us normal people don't like confrontation, and it is a fact if enough people see you some or one of them won't like it...guaranteed.

Try not to worry about "that guy", as you said kind of expected it to happen at some point.
I've also been visited by the police, which wasn't a problem either.

I always avoid busy spot or i just go in an area where there is no one around when it s busy in the area , better be on stealth mode sometime. I got two hobby in life , snorkeling and metal detecting , dont plan to give up on them.
