Hi guys!
I'm new to this discussion forum - but am an active participant on other metal detecting forums.
Later this summer I'll be visiting Nova Scotia on vacation. This afternoon I phoned Nova Scotia Provincial Parks and was advised that the personal use of metal detectors in provincial parks is illegal.
What about those public beaches which are not part of provincial parks? Do you suppose that anyone would have a problem with using a metal detector at such locations?
Thanks!

One of my friends is a lawyer and he told me in new-brunswick if you got your feet in the water , they should not be allowed to kick you out of a beach unless some military ship would have crash there , parlee beach they are driving the tractor on the beach with a screener , that is why they dont like metal detector on the beach, your taking stuff away from them , one employée told me when the season start up to september first the stuff lost belong to them and they dont want any metal detector on the beach. Was there 2 weeks ago at 5 in the morning.

Yeah, it's the Yarmouth area that I'll be visiting in September.
For starters, I'll try the Port Maitland Beach.
I was hoping to also try the Ellenwood Lake Provincial Park - but that's off limits for detectors.
Oh well, I'll find some other adventurous place...

Here is the contact info: Nova Scotia Department of Natural Resources, Parks & Recreation Division, Phone: (902) 662-3030* Mon-Fri 8:30 am – 4:30 pm ADT
When I phoned they mentioned that only those who are doing certain types of "scientific research" can obtain special permission to use metal detectors in Ellenwood Park. Apparently the personal/private use of metal detectors is not permitted in any NS provincial park. At least that's what I have recently been told...
Have you been told otherwise?

Cachmaster.....no I have not been told otherwise, but I've seen others metal detecting in provincial parks in the past....never heard of an issue but I guess it could be. I do know under the parks act and regulations it does state you can not destroy or remove and tree, plant or flower in a provincial park. The Port Maitland beach area is only a small part of the beach...I suppose if you stay outside of the park boundaries you would be good to go...
Good luck.

Do you suppose that they would give me any trouble at Ellenwood Park? (Have you ever done any metal detecting there?)
