I'm looking into getting a new metal detector because mine is simply just not cutting it. Chopping signals and bad depth is starting to frustrate me. It simply can't go more than 4 inches down. I did a test where I burryed a silver quarter 5 inches down and it didn't give of any signal no.matter how many times I went over it. I've been looking at the garret at-pro and thinking about buying it. Just looking for some more knowlage on the topic. Firstly if you have a at-pro could you tell me about if it goes deep and can find old and silver coins. And could anybody else.recomend other machines withing a similar price range that are good for silver and old coins?
thanks to all that can help, Caleb

You can't go wrong with the AT Pro, I have two machines, the fisher Gold Bug and the AT Pro, the machine that I use the vast majority of times is the AT Pro, although the fisher is lighter. Once I get older weight may become an issue.
You won't have any trouble pulling coins out, depth varies depending on orientation of coin, soil type, moisture, experience with the machine etc, no one right answer, but the AT Pro is one of the best mid-range detectors out there, in my opinion.
Good Luck

I have pick thing as deep as a foot with my at-pro , If you get an at-pro , spend a bit of time on youtube to watch some video on the at-pro , you could learn some good trick on setting it.

I have an ATP as well and I love it. Couple things drive me (no backlight on LCD, fussy connectors on coil and headphones) but otherwise it's been great for the money. I know Rick pushes the Omegas pretty good and I'd love to try one for a week to compare. The waterproof feature is nice for the odd time you get struck in the rain. I'd definitely shell out for the small 5 x 9 coil, it's excellent. Good on batteries, takes cheap AA type.
That's my limited two cents.
Cheers DS

Have you got a price on your gold chain. Could be a good down payment on a new machine.
