Hello, My name is Scott (29 yo) and after being a recreational diver for almost 15 years and a Navy diver for 5 years, i am looking to expand my hobby a little further. I just ordered a Garrett Sea Hunter MKII (please tell me i made a good choice over the Sand Shark) and I cannot wait to try her out on shore and in the Sea a like. I already have a list of places down the Eastern shore of Nova Scotia I cannot wait to explore. If anyone is from around that area feel free to say hi! I am sure i could use a few tips. I have spent hours trying to research wrecks and history of the eastern shoreline for places to dive/search but have came up with very little.

Glad you found the place Scott.
My opinion is they are both good, IE you never hear too much about leak issues with either of them. But as of a couple of years ago Tesoro started hard wiring their water detectors, they even out of production for at least a year while they made the change. So I believe the sea hunter has a pretty good advantage being able to swap coils, and phones should you want to try a different coil, or NEED to like something happens and you accidentally damage a wire. (in 8 years I've broke a headphone wire more than once)
Sometimes just wrapping up the coil wire can be a pain, trying not to get it all twisted up, and not getting "tangled" with the phones when they are hard wired, and would be even worse on a short configured dive shaft as the coil cable is quite long so that they can be chest, or hip mounted.
"I think" the battery compartment might be better designed in the sea hunter you just drop in the battery pack, and screw on the cover. In the tesoro you actually pull the "guts" right out of the machine, exposing the electronics, and stressing some wires each time you do. That may not be much of an issue though to most people.
Sea Hunter also does have "some" DISC. sand shark NONE.
In my opinion these differences make the small difference in price well worth it.
RE info on ship wrecks, there used to be a website called "ON THE ROCKS" that show many thousands of wrecks, with at least some info on each, but wouldn't you guess the Gov. took it down.

Good to see some fellow divers on here...spent 20 years as a recreational diver and 7 years as a offshore hard hat diver...to many close calls... found out I wasn't bullet proof and needed to change my profession. But I loved the sea.... HH

That sucks that you wont be able to detect underwater (diving). Im assuming by changing your profession means you cant medically dive anymore? I dont know what i would do if i couldnt go deep anymore.
