By default iron disc is at zero, since you "probably" won't want any targets in the iron range ??, turn up iron disc to 40, or as some others prefer 35. This will(should) make a lot of unnecessary noise go away. Give that a try, and let us know your results. By the way it doesn't mean you won't dig "any" iron. Rick Already have the iron disk up.to 40. Going out tomorrow morning to try to work out some of the kinks. I'll let you all know how it goes! That is a bit of a head scratch. As with everything else (settings) being equal there shouldn't be a marked difference between the two modes as your describing. STD zero mode = no background/mineral noise VS pro zero mode = lots of noise. Although pro mode is deeper/more sensitive, and could explain it. If leafs4 is handy and can come over, that would be good. Nothing like hands on, as opposed to reading/writing. I'm sure you will master it, afterall 20 minutes is...well certainly just not enough.

Went out this morning and found a 1940 wheat penny and a 1941 canadien penny. Two oldest coins I've found yet. Also found a 1962 three pence, my first british coin ever and about a dollar in clad and 25 penny's mostly from the 60's and 70's already loving the new machine.

That is good to hear. I'm sure Santa will be happy to hear that too.
Was out myself today with AT Pro for just one hour before dark today, got one old copper, don't know if it is IDable yet...just got in, I will post it up, as is a rare hunt for Dec. 27.

My piece of advice: No your machine is not broken. Trust me, it's you. It will get better once the seemingly patternless noises begin to make sense.
Great gift BTW, you'll do well with it. For your birthday, ask for a pinpointer and a 5x9 coil. Then you're ready for anything.
Cheers, DS

I also use the ATpro, at first very intimidating, now, I love it. Love the iron audio feature. Once you learn what she is telling you, you will have many fine adventure together.
Any questions, drop us a line, I will try and answer to the best of my limited ability, but will pass on my experience.
Cheers
Tony

Still not the machine for me but religated to a back up!
