Hi guys,
I read up on Detectors all the time so I know a lot of the info If I were to purchase a new one. The problem is it's my Father looking for one and not myself so I want the best info possible.
I like my ATP but had suggested against it for him as he will not be water detecting and it does get heavy. The new prices on the Garrett's in Canada are higher as well because of the dollar, this opens up other options in the same price range.
I suggested the Teknetics Omega to him, I know Rick swings one and loves it and it was the detector I almost went with. Does anybody else use one on here? If so do you have the DD coil, is it worth the extra money to buy the 2 coil package? Also suggested if hes willing to drop the money a F75 LTD (new version with DST) but that's unluckily.
Any other suggestions are welcome. He wants good target seperation/fast recovery and depth comparable to my ATP or greater.
Thanks guys!
(Rick I will be in contact when the time comes to purchase)

Hey leafs,
I think I have enough of an honest reputation here that I can say something ? You be the judge OK
Yes I like the Omega, a lot of the reason is the slight weight advantage over the AT pro, as well it is a little bit better at target separation, but if you neeeded waterproof there is no comparrison, AT Pro is the winner, and has a lot of popularity. That's why I have one of those too.
Got to say found a slightly bigger target say a 2" dia. chunk of iron I dug at 15" with the small coil on AT Pro, so depth is not a problem.
I use the Omega with stock coil for many reasons, the 11DD does give you an inch (MAX) on a coin sized object, it's more like a half an inch really, If you want the extra coverage, it's worth it, if you want better manouverability, it not, that's the category I'm in. And as I like to go into "bush" swinging between corn stalks, a narrower coil is a "good thing". In fact I'd like to have a 4X12. Skinyier, more coverage, back-pack better, that would be my coil. As it is the coil size (again IMO) is about perfect, BTW F5, and F70 come stock with this coil.
When you bring the new F75 LTD into the equasion here there really is no comparrison. ( and yes the new DST models are much quieter) while I WON'T support the claims from FT that a F75 will hit coins at 15" I will say that it will hit coins at 13", and no question that is a DEEP coin. And for the record I will test all detectors to the same standard. My depth in inches are what I call digable signals, not some faint, ghost, whisper of a signal, if that makes any sense to you ? AS some Youtube vids. are doing tests in AM or swiping the target much faster than a person would actually swing....
I haven't tried a Deus yet for myself, and I guess I have to at this point, as I can't seem to get a straight answer from anyone yet, about it's "actual" depth, but will say this about Deus, my good digging buddy ZDD is definitely finding more than he was before in the iron patches.

Oh yeah the exchange rate is kind of killer right now that goes for all the US made detectors.

Thanks for the info Rick! I was checking out your page, are the prices current? I see the Omega hasn't changed much in pricing. Does the stock coil seperate as well as the DD? If so I see no reason for him to go with the DD just to gain that little depth.
Am I correct that both Fisher and Teknetics carry a 5 year warranty?
I don't know why I put the F75 LTD in there.. I mean it's a lot more money so not a fair comparison. I told him from what I hear about it and watch about it that IMO it is a great detector but I think hes looking to stay under $1000. The Deus looks like a great machine.. I'm guessing it is 2k plus though?
PS: Would he be able to get his hands on a couple just to get the feel of it, if we head down sometime? Obviously he can't try it in the field but just to get an idea of the balance etc.
Thanks Rick!

What pain in the ars damn yoyo dollar. #2)Yes, 5 year warranty. #3)Sure you "can put your hands on one", we could even go for a short trip using my "dirty" one. #4) Yes Deus is over 2K out the door. Suprisingly I've sold a few. I'm on the fence about one, as I have enough dirtys on the wall now. #5) Yes the stock coil separates well, I will say "IF" you or he, ever though you might want the DD coil, the best time to get it in a combo deal. I even bought a NEL hunter coil for mine which is about 8.5 X 12.5, again I see no measureable depth advantage, but it's a lot bigger, and doesn't weigh much more. I will give it a try....very soon now. Good luck with the decision. PS the newest version of F75 is a real, and huge improvement, as I had one turned up to max INSIDE the house. And the noise in DISC mode was the main reason I haven't been using one.

Even though a lifetime Garrett user I'll have to side with Navy Davy and Rick on this issue....sad but true. With the death of Charles Garrett the company may take an upward trend....sad to say!
