Promptly at 745 am Navy Davy pulled up and it was off to the Eastern Shore to do a few beaches. Before entering his vehicle I noticed a scene waiting to be photographed.
After the preamble of a coffee and breakfast sandwich at Rotten Ronnies we motored on down the road on a most foggy day with ND talking up a storm about his old navy days. Was actually enjoying each story and got a few good laughs.
The beach. Was virtually vacant. A young lady walked her dog as her mane followed like that of her dog blowing in the wind. A cluster of ladies on mats performed yoga exercises, giving us a quick glance as if to say that we were invading their Karma, a seagull squawked as it tore apart yet another oversized clam. The sky drifted horizontally across the horizon forming shapes and shifting to another.
Nd went right and I left. Walked the beach at the apex of low tide unable to get Zen Guru (AT Pro) to settle down and be one with the sand. Tried notching down the sensitivity. Tried changing modes but settled on moving up to the dry sand....frustrated at the machine while wishing that I had brought Aqua Guru (Seahunter mk11) which is a pulse machine and works wonder on any kind of sand and in any kind of water. At this location it was about the view. Navy Davy hit about a half dozen coins here.
We were off to another beach just as lovely, just as dissolute with the same results. Navy Davy was sucking up the coins while I floundered! Having had enough of beaching I retreated to the picnic area to try and save my day. I have only been skunked twice in 51 years with both coming in the UK. The last at a place called Soul Drop. Fitting. Zen Guru was in his element and began to find a few coins. Zero Pro, 19 on the iron wide open. Moving at a speed that reflected my age I got a clear small hit in the low 70's. After several attempts I got the item out of the hole. A cracker of a 1910 fish scale. Made the pain and biting insects worth the effort.
Meanwhile ND was again to the right digging up coins including a nice number 2 Halifax -Dartmouth bridge token. By the end of the outing he had 14 coins to my ten. Not a stellar outing but one of Zen.
The five cent piece I cleaned up in the old way; glass pie plate lined with tinfoil followed b a liberal amount of baking soda and a third of a cup of white vinegar.
