The instruments were at the ready! (photo 1). It was going to be my very first procedure. Mad I say. Mad. At 67 I had never done one.
The incision to notch the skull went off without the patient complaining. Nurse Hunny Bunny then handed me the scoop which I manipulated just behind the cerebral cortex with the precision of a moon landing. The ghastly gore and goo was removed from the patient.(p2) I was focused totally on my patient as just one slip of the scalpel could cause a lifetime of pain and suffering. My nurse toweled down my forehead (and an ample one at that) as the sweat was pouring off me. The concentration was intense; so intense that it could be felt throughout the operating theater. After what seemed like hours (15 minutes to be precise) the procedure was completed. Nurse Hunny Bunny took over the next one as I was spent.(p3 with hers on the left) The was my first and hopefully my last time for doing that!
