Princess Hunny Bunny gazed northward just as a shooting star plummeted earthward leaving in it's wake a cascade of glitter. The princess immediately made a wish. Not a spoken one but one from her heart. A heart that was broken as her true love had departed for the Arouras Borrelia. A land of ice, snow and tundra far to the north that had promised her knight, Sir Digalot new quests worthy of his servitude.
Later that night while laying in bed a vision from the dark sky appeared to her! "Quarter Moon" in a heavenly glow spoke to her in a voice made of all but sweet accord.
"Your unspoken wish upon a falling star shall be granted. However you must agree to the following conditions. Each month upon the setting of the quarter moon in the heavens you must take up the duties of the "Mother Confessor of the Brethren of the Swinging Coil" without qualms or reservations. You will transition into the Garrett Nighthawk, a most noble creature whose sole duty is to protect the clan. Failing to do so has dire consequences. You would be forever be trapped in the realm of the night sky. Do you agree to those terms?"
"Yes! Oh yes with all my heart" said the princess!
"Go to your closet and take out the red shoes. Put them on and tap the heels three times. Not once. Not twice nor four but three times." spoke the vision.
Princess Hunny Bunny raced out of bed tearing open the closet doors and donned the red shoes clicking the heels three times. Immediately a high mist engulfed her leaving her light headed. She fainted. She awoke on a frozen lake shivering from the cold. She thought of her knight as the warmth from her heart melted her frozen tear drops. Suddenly from the dancing sky a figure appeared. White. Big. As it came into full focus she could see that it was a huge polar bear with a rider dashing towards her. Her true love. He dismounted and embraced her while wrapping her in a silver fur. Kisses and hugs reigned supreme.
They both mounted the great beast and headed towards what was to be Princess Hunny Bunny's new home, the Winter Hall of Treasure Quest. Once in the great main hall with a fire blazing the princess told her story of the wish bestowed upon her by Quarter Moon. The knight was pleased that they were once again together. He then told his story since their separation. He explained to her that he had built this great hall with a great room that housed a great table. A five sided oblong table and had scoured the North looking for other brave knights to help him on his quest. She enquired as to this quest but the knight stood fast and would not tell.
He then began to tell her about the knights he had sworn to the quest.
The first brave knight recruited was "Willy Wet Whistle" who had a propensity for whiskey, wine and women. A hard man to find at times and even harder to remove from his distractions. Nevertheless a knight with a stout heart, brave and a keen sense of treasure.
Second knight was "Lesche Tool" who Sir Digalot had found in a forge making weapons of mass detection. Strong of body not brain he could dig for days without a stop. However he had an annoying habit of shouting eureka with every hole he dug and he dug every signal. A master blacksmith who could build any instrument a treasure hunter would need.
Doug A. Hole was the next to be recruited. Sir Digalot found him in a tavern drunk as a wolf high on catnip telling jokes so that patrons would buy him more mead. Recall his lame joke about a Knight of Minlab who dug a gold coin and was so happy he had it bronzed. A true master of saying the wrong thing at the right time. When knighted in the great haul he had been passed out on the floor in a pool of smelly vomit. A special vomit in that it had a magical power to thwart off evil manateau northern sprits.
The last knight of the Fantasy Five was "Long Lost Guy" who had come to the north through the fabled Northwest Passage from his war torn home in Viet Nam. There he and his four brothers had set out to remove all the land mines left behind after the conflict between his people and the maniacs from across the great sea. He was the last of his clan. A testament to his great skill with the Freedom 3 Plus. With no family left he had left thinking that the solitude of the Northern Canadian Artic would bring him peace. A hard man to keep track of for he never walked the road most taken.
The "Knights Digger of the Oblong Table" spent most of their free time exploring the kingdom finding the mundane and on a rare occasion a lost property marker which quelled many a dispute maintaining peace and prosperity amongst the farmers. Of course Sir Digalot spent most of his waking hours attending to his true love save when he was in the field of finds. Even then they were together as Princess Hunny Bunny hoovered a loft in her Garrett Nighthawk form.
Summer became fall with the long nights of winter approaching. A time for the Digger Knights to rest and regroup. It was a harsh winter as the crops of the fall were poor and mysterious fires burnt many. The masses were going to bed at night with hunger in their bellies which disheartened the princess. Going to the country's vault she took out all the treasures that the knights had dug. Loaded into a wagon she travelled alone to the next kingdom which seem unaffected by the harshness that had befallen her realm. There she meet up with King Deus a most evil and inhospitable man. The princess pleaded with the king for grain for her people in exchange for the treasures of the cart she had brought along. After thwarting several advances by the unruly king an agreement was finally reached. Princess Hunny Bunny hastily returned to her lands. She was saddened by the state of her subjects. Tears of joy flowed from the faces of her subjects as the food was handed out.
The spring came and with it new hope; a new crop. Everyone in the kingdom was happy working the fields living life to the fullest. One day a wicked looking old lady approached the knights saying that this prosperity could continue if the "Pearl of Prophecy" could be located as it could tell the future so that one could prepare for what was to come! Finally a quest worthy of the knights. Each knight road off in a different direction as the clues given by the hag were very cryptic to say the least. Sir Long Lost was the first to fall as a giant man eating egg roll devoured him. The horror! The horror as the beast did not even have the decency to pour plum sauce on him. Sir Dig A. Hole had gone the way of the setting sun. Coming to a deserted village he began to swing his mighty machine. Stopping at a good signal he stooped down only to have two ungodly earthen hands reach up from the soil and pull him to the netherworld. Willie Wet Whistle going northeast was having great success finding wine, whiskey and women but became so intoxicated that he challenged a yeti who promptly torn him limb from limb. Sad as this was a fight that could have been avoided if Willie had not made eyes at the yeti's prize ewe. Lesche Tool meandered eastward encountering a fire breathing dragon who he quickly dispatched with a fire extinguisher but failed to see the rhinoelephant charge him from behind. Travelers who witnessed this event later related that as of the time of telling of this event Lesche had not fallen to earth.
Sir Digalot had encountered strange and dangerous beasts but at every turn ,often at the last possible moment Garrett Nighthawk had swooped down from the sky and saved his scrawny skin. A week into the quest saw Sir Digalot not caring a lot. Weakened by the many encounters he meandered westward towards the land of the Murdering Munchikins Tribe renown for their savagery of wrapping the unwary in pasta with hot sauce and baking them in the volcano they worshipped. Sir Digalot had travelled this route as a result of a clue given by the old hag that the gold oyster housing the "Pearl of Prophesy" was near a hot spot. Approaching the Munchlins village Sir Digalot was immediately surrounded by the inhabitants. Each brandishing either a knife, fork or garlic bread. The circle got smaller. Our hero's hopes got weaker when all of a sudden Garrett Nighthawk screamed from above and glided past the circle. As if hit by lightening the Munchkins fled into the countryside while dropping their weapons. Sir Digalot was saved. In the middle of the vacated village stood the golden shell. Approaching with great caution Sir Digalot opened the shell to be greeted by a most incredible sight........."The Pearl of Prophesy." Scooping up the pearl Digalot climbed on to Garrett Nighthawk and flew back to the kingdom. The pearl was examined by the wizards but not one of them could get the pearl to give up it's secrets. The old hag was summonsed. "You must speak the words of the heart for the pearl to start." No incantation spoken worked. Sir Digalot was just happy to be back with his love in a safe place but saddened that the pearl would not tell of what was to come so that he may better serve the land. Downhearted he spoke to Princess Hunny Bunny in a sweet voice..."I had a heart and it was true but now its gone from me to you. If you truly love me you will know just what to do." A shimmering light danced from the pearl forecasting photos of what was to come. Peace and happiness for the kingdom was for ever more secure.
