I haven't been able to find a good American forum. I don't really have any hard feelings towards them but there are a lot of issues that are hurting the hobby here and they are not being addressed. I don't think anyone wants to moderate or promote discussion on the tougher issues. Unfortunately the new people to the hobby will go where the most traffic is.

Welcome aboard and we always like to tackle issues here. It is afterall just a hobby. Americans have different laws and issues then us folks hee. Whatever floats your boat.
Ben in the hobby over 47 years and have seen the "issues" addressed but again most like to ignore or go else where.

Welcome aboard and we always like to tackle issues here. It is afterall just a hobby. Americans have different laws and issues then us folks hee. Whatever floats your boat. Ben in the hobby over 47 years and have seen the "issues" addressed but again most like to ignore or go else where.I think there are other venues now such as facebook, youtube etc. that are not as real as forums and that is hurting the hobby. Anyone can call their site a " forum " but most are really nothing more than a blog carrying the forum name. The owners of those sites have the right to do that and people will not stick around when they see what they really are. Blogs in general are about self-promoting and do very little if anything to tackle the issues that negatively effect the hobby. They can preach all they want about how they are concerned about the hobby but when it comes to stating any good they have actually done they fall short. Tackling the issues that are hurting the hobby can be fun as well as dramatic and I am fortunate to have been involved in that. The person new to the hobby will go to where the traffic is and the major sites have the opportunity to promote and encourage discussion but they are more into showcasing finds and helping sell detectors. I don't think there is anything wrong with showing finds and selling detectors but there is no need to avoid the issues facing the hobby while doing so. I have been fortunate to see and participate where some good was done by covering a broad range of issues and having a lot of fun in the off topic areas too. It's a shame that someone would think that limiting the " fun " area of a forum and the " tougher issues " area of a forum would cause people to post more finds and/or participate more. It didn't work and will not work as people will do what they are interested in doing or they will go else where or not participate at all.
