Hi. I'm from Sackville, Nova Scotia. Just bought a used Fisher Gold Strike on Kijiji yesterday and hit the beach for the first time today. Had a little trouble with erroneous readings at first in the wet sand but once I relocated to the dry stuff and reset the auto ground balance, it quieted down considerably and started finding real targets. Mind you the majority was still garbage (which i took it with me as you can see in the pics) I had my wife and 2 year old daughter with me, so, I only had maybe a solid half hour to get some searching done while the girls were busy playing on the beach. My only "good hit" was the 1973 dime that looks like it has been in the rough surf sinch the day it was minted. Strangely enough you can still make out the date quite well and the spot where it says 10 cents. A small portion of the Bluenose is still distinguishable as well. The beach glass in the pic was found about 15 feet from where I found the dime. One of the nicest pieces I have found. There is very intense wave action in this area and I just love what it does to the rocks and beach glass I find. I'm excited about getting into this hobby and I have wanted to for a long time. I have recurring dreams about finding lost coins in all kinds of crazy places and I have always been fascinated by gold and the thought of maybe finding something from a ship long ago lost at sea. Enough babbling, thanks for reading.
Have a good one.
Dave

Thanks guys. Rick, yes I did buy the detector from George. It will take some getting used to for sure. Just spent an hour in the back yard. Pulled a lot of foils and a couple of recent dinky cars. Still very much trying to read what the machine is telling me.

Thanks Leslie, I'm down on Lakehead Court.
Does anyone have any tips for digging in grass? Made a bit of a mess in my backyard last night. I read that I should make a plug and replace it when I'm done but that can be difficult if the target is in the plug. Also, Is it ok to search on beaches in Provincial parks during open season?
Thanks in advance.

Good question Dave, if a person is uncomfortable digging in his own lawn then he / she certainly shouldn't be doing it anywhere else.
I just saw a good video on the white's site, it shows good technique for digging in a nice grass area. here's the u-tube link (if it works) No ! I just made mt own video, will add here shortly.
Rick
also a lot of people are good and fast without one, but a pin pointer can help alot cutting down on mess, and as a bonus it "can" speed up recovery.

Thanks Rick. I'll check it out after work. How much does a pinpointer cost?
I think I'll stick to beaches or deep in the woods until I am competent enough to not make a mess. By the way, you have some really nice finds! I'm looking forward to finding similar items.

Wow. That was a slick pick indeed. I see where the pin pointer is very useful. How much for that type you were using? Do you sell them? Thanks for the video.

Rick Are you ever in the Sackville area? Or even Windsor? I would like to get an F point next Thursday but I don't know if I can get to Kentville for it.
