Took the Freedom 3 Plus out for a spin. Usual clad till I hit the 1976 dollar...not silver but not an every day type of scoff. I ran out of juice before the Freedom 3 Plus and called it a day without achieving quota. Too tired now to go to the stamp club meeting but lots of football on. Watched two games and was pleased that Poland kept Germany to a nil nil draw. No word yet from Doctor Garrett on the Pro.

Took Hunny Bunny and a pair of my Freedom 3 Plus machines for a drive down the valley. Stopped at Tim's,Hennigars and Frenchy's along the way. Then I got to stop at a school while Marie sat in the car and watched "13 to 30" on the portable DVD player. When the movie was done....so was I. Nice pleasant day especially since the rain held off. Dug an over quota of 61 coins @ $7.10, junker ring, fun villa token, heart dewie, star and a Hannah Montana locket. Fun dig and glad I took a backup for my Freedom 3 Plus.......another Freedom 3 Plus with fresh batteries!

GAAAAZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZRRRRRRRRRRRRR. Darn the super for using the whipper snipper at quarter after ten in the morning. Just got to bed at 0710hrs. Got up and saw the dishes on the counter. I have a propensity for dropping or breaking dishes when doing them. Marie has not caught on......just left them, grabbed a Freedom 3 and left Dodge. Back to School Weekend so the schoolyards seemed to be the logical place to get quota. Hit one that I knew was penny rich. Quota is quota! Pennies indeed start a popping with great regularity....wish I was. Anyway in the zone. Nice to hunt a place that was not full of litter. Flashback...I get no respect While in the zone my mind meandered back tooooooooooooooooooooooo.........................it started as soon as I exited the womb and the doctor slapped both of my faces. Dad took a photo of the event which Maw later turned into a poster that promoted me as the poster child for birth control. I get no respect. Mom knew from the onset that I was different. That she had given birth to a full blown digaholic. This fact was nurtured and cultivated by sending me out at an early age to play with "Puddles" who would dig holes which I would crawl into to be buried. Didn't hurt that maw tied a bone to my leg so that Puddles would play with me. I get no respect. Mom's suspicions of my "ailment" were reinforced repeatedly as I would go fishing and bring the catch home to be buried in Grandpa's garden much to his dismay and to the delight of the local feline population that could be heard in the garden each night. My hands were always in the dirt. I would uproot wild plants, flowers and whatever and plant them in my own little patch. It was only later in life that it dawned on me why my mother always wanted to move to Yellowknife NWT where for months at a time there was 24 hour a day sunlight. "Leslie go out and play and don't come home till it gets dark." I get no respect. First tool for the Digaholic Still in my sleep depraved flashback I recalled delivering the morning and evening papers as well as working odd jobs to get my first detector..........a Garrett which to this day I cannot recall the model. Still to this day I am swinging the Garretts and not coming back till dark.............. Back into the dig Snapped out of my flashback. 8 coins to go for quota.....wood chip playground part of the school....foreign coins. Counted my take.oops 5 over quota. Debated with myself over whether I should go for a century (100 coins) or go home before dark and make spaghetti...momma mea!

Some days are just going to be bad ones. Although I do at times take literary liberty this is how my day went without being overly melodramatic! Raining once again so I didn't bother calling Navy Davy. Did the domestics with the only casualty being a glass. Around 11am Marie came home and complained about the smell in the hallway...................oops my wet sneakers from yesterdays dig. Imagine if I put Odor Eaters in them and put them on I would take three steps and disappear. Sprayed them with an air freshener! Marie was out the door shortly there after to do some errands. Decided I would go for a swish to see how the Seahunter mk11 was working then remembered that my chest waders had a leak in the boot. Applied a generous amount of crazy glue to the affected area thinking that would seal the leak. Drove to a nearby lake, opened the trunk to get the shoulder length gloves out as the water is still a tad nippy. Not there . Remembered then that they were in Marie's or Navy Davy's trunk. Put on the chestwaders and waded in the drink finding 9 coins at $8.80 not too mention that my left boot was full almost to the knee with water. So much for my repair effort. Chest high I stepped into a hole in the bottom of the lake twisted my bad knee bent over and took in a few quarts of water inside my chestwaders. Cursed a tad . Should have kept my mouth shut as one of those flying ants flew in my mouth. Tasted rather good with my Mentos that I was chawing on. Dam flying things were everywhere getting into everything. Headed to shore as enough was enough. Saw a few fish in the water and caught one on the sand..................not sure what species it is. Seahunter MK11 worked great with no falsing...must have been the area in the Dominican that caused the problem. Keep the chestwaders on for the drive home. Made the mistake of taking them off in the kitchen....yup you got it..a minor flood. Where was my brain! Hung them up in the bathroom to dry. In retrospect I think I should have taken them off in the bathtub. Dug up enough to buy a TV bingo card. Think I should join Marie's mother and the girls for the games the way my day went? Not in this life time. Sitting on the couch for the rest of the day....not tempting providence! Jays and Tigers!

With the demands of work digging time has been at a premium to say the least. No choice as we have to fill the shifts. Of course the overtime might add that 3rd week to my UK trip. Day off and Navy Davy and I were going to hit the road for a dig but we choose not to go as the weather was on the "dark side." Around noon with the house work done another choice....this one was easy. To dig or not to dig! Next choice was harder. Where to go and I'm sure we have all asked that at one time or another. Made up my mind and decided on a few local spots. Next choice was the toughest. Digging out my Garrett arsenal.....which machine to take. Freedom 11, Freedom 3, Freedom 3 Plus or Freedom CDC. The choice did not seem that hard as the Freedom 11 had fresh batteries in it. Four spots and 2.5 hours later quota was had. Sure nice to just get out....but that has not been my choice!

Was excited as I had the chance to use my birthday present on my birthday...my new coil for the pro which set Hunny Bunny back $208. When the pro is working it is a great machine.
Hit a school field and the Pro worked great for ...3 minutes then shut off. Checked the connections, batteries and even going so far as to try a new battery holder and batteries. Again worked for about 2 minutes then started chattering...turned her off reset...worked okay for another 2 minutes then went into a "wailing" mode. CANNOT TELL YOU HOW PO'ED I AM!
This Pro has been back 5 times already for everything from leaking, water in the lcd display area to the machine posts breaking off and most recently a new circut board.. With the price of this new coil (which is suppose to be water proof and I never take in the water due to leakage issues from earlier experiences never sees the water), repair costs and shipping I am sure I have surpassed the original price of when I brought it new. Oh forgot to mention about how the coil always loosens which I had mentioned to Garrett many times and even the previous coil would not screw flush like the headphone connector.
Finished the dig off with a Freedom 3 Plus in a very foul mood! Here is a machine made at Garrett over 20 years ago when Garrett turned out quality products. I'm Sure Charlie Garrett would roll in his grave with his factory producing machines of the present day quality.
Having been a Garrett only swinger for 45 years I fell that I have the right to complain and complain loudly. Some would say I misuse the machines...have really old Garretts that still work....some would say it's just a lemon....well its been in enough times to be repaired its virtually a new machine thus would could infer the workmanship of the repairs was substandard or the parts.
Garrett thanks for ruining my birthday!
Will let you know how Garrett customer service responds.....................have seriously started looking at other manufactures of detectors. Last thing I need is to cross the big pond on the yearly UK trip and have a machine crap out like the Pro did on the Dominican trip!
Turned it on once at home and guess what....worked for 2 minutes!

Did read that and there was some good thoughts. Did purpose to John that an article is needed on some of the detectors advertising that involved military ordinace used in there ads...explosive topic I would think!
